It’s a week less one day before my class visit to Ms. Orzepowski’s seventh graders. One of them, Janelle, sent me a note via the blog last night. I love hearing from students!
I am very much looking forward to spending time with them next week. Yay!
Also, the weather has cleared up in Englewood and that’s fabulous.
Later!
Grace

Hello Grace,
I’m Chirangi from Ms. Orzepowski’s class. I really liked your story. There was a lot of emotion involved. I really think there should be a sequel to your book, with you in Venezuela. It makes sense; that’s what you talked about in the end of Angel’s Grace. I’ll see you Wednesday!

It’s true that it will be hard trying to write a sequel. It would not have that sense of uniqueness since you (Ms. Baptiste) did not grow up in Venezuela. And there’s Angel’s Spanish-speaking Mother.

Hi Grace and Ms.Baptiste,
My name is Maria and I am a student from Ms. Orzepowski’s 7th grade class and I would like to ask you a question on the novel Angel’s Grace which I enjoyed reading a lot because of the different emotions you put in the book and the way you expressed the setting and the characters of the book. My question as follows is: Do you portray Grace in the novel or do you portray any other character like her sister, grandmother, mother, or maybe Angel’s sister? If so what do you see in them that you might see in yourself? I’m looking foward to seeing you on Wednesday.

Dear Grace,
It was fun to have you visit in our classroom the last few days. I hope you enjoyed our discussions about your story and about our writing.
Yesterday was an exciting day because Tracey came to visit us at the middle school and shared her writing adventures with us. She did a great job answering all of our questions…and finishing off a few cookies and a brownie too!
You both have been a great inspiration for my students. Yes, writing is hard work, but there is nothing like the feeling you get when you are satisfied with something you have created whether it is a story, a poem, an essay, a painting, or a character on stage.

Rae-Ann // January 19, 2009 at 12:40 pm |
Hi Grace and Ms. Baptiste,
This is Rae-Ann from Ms. Orzepowski’s class. Your visit was an honor. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot about writing. I hope you getyour draft of Losing Faith published. WHEN (not if) it gets published, I would really like to read it
yecarth // January 19, 2009 at 4:38 pm |
Rae-Ann, I appreciate the encouragement. It’s easy to get a bit down in the dumps when things don’t go as planned, but meeting great students like you makes all the tough days seem very far away. I will certainly keep you all posted on the fate of “Losing Faith.”
Thanks again. You made my day!
